Australian-based Menulog is a delivery service that can hold its own against international rivals like US-based DoorDash and Uber Eats.
Based on a report from Dashmote, by the end of 2022, Menulog is the second biggest food delivery platform in Australia, just one level behind Uber’s delivery platform.
Menulog is currently part of the Just Eat Network, a leading global on-demand delivery company. In Australia, the firm has successfully connected millions of loyal customers to tens of thousands of merchant partners around the country.
Availability for Drivers
In 2007, the Sydney-based delivery platform made its debut in New South Wales’s capital city. At the time, Menulog was the country’s most popular meal ordering site.
The company has grown dramatically during the course of its more than 17-year history. Their food ordering and delivery services are available in hundreds of cities, districts, regions, and towns throughout Australia.
Intense competition from similar platforms prompted Menulog to become more reliable and stay the favoured option of Australians. One solution is to keep recruiting new delivery drivers.
As of now, anyone can register to be a delivery courier for them. Especially in rural areas with a small number of drivers.
Driver Requirements
Like other delivery gigs, being a Menulog delivery driver has simple qualifications.
You must be at least 18 years old.
- Have the right to work in Australia
- Can present one of the following personal identity documents: PR card, birth certificate, passport, study permit, Immicard, or others.
- Complete a background check from National Crime Check, the same supplier as when you register with Uber or DoorDash.
- Have access to one of the vehicles such as a bike or motor vehicle (car or motorcycle).
- A valid driver’s licence for those of you who deliver by motor vehicle. A full or P2 Probationary (green P-plate) licence is accepted.
- Vehicle insurance and registration for the vehicle you will use for work.
Furthermore, you are suggested to use the following delivery gear when working with the platform.
- A helmet and other safety standards that apply in this country.
- A commercial-grade thermal bag to transport and deliver orders. The company will offer the bag for you. If you want to use your own delivery bag, you will also be requested to provide information about it for approval.
Delivery Options for Drivers
Menulog started out solely offering restaurant delivery. However, they now offer on-demand grocery delivery through a thousand merchant partners.
As we all know, there is an increasing demand for convenience and food delivery across the country. This occurred as a result of changes in consumer purchasing habits during the COVID limitations.
Grocery and convenience stores are currently their fastest-growing merchant partners. The increased number of listings for that type of merchant on the Menulog platform demonstrates this. The platform currently has more than 35,000 listed restaurants, grocery stores, and other retail businesses.
This is a very good opportunity for a delivery driver like me and you. More stores enable Menulog to reach more customers, which translates to more delivery orders for drivers.
Delivery Driver Pay
Menulog, unlike other platforms, runs on a closed network and needs you to declare your availability (delivery run) once a week. This means you can’t go online outside of the time you’ve set for yourself.
This allows Menulog to match the number of delivery drivers in each zone to the expected amount of orders. Such a strategy enables drivers to optimize their earning potential while also reducing the possibility of wasted waiting time between orders.
However, when demand increases, Menulog will most likely provide Open Runs. An additional delivery schedule that you can pick to maximize your earnings for the day.
Based on the experiences of a Menulog driver guy in our community. The delivery rate per order is reasonable, averaging around $10 per delivery.
I’m having some difficulties calculating the hourly wage for Menulog drivers. Because the fellow drivers we met only get a few orders per day due to their limited schedules. To optimize his earnings, he must be online on many platforms or multi-apping with Uber Eats and DoorDash.
Driver Payment Options
Menulog delivery couriers will be paid via direct deposit to the bank account that you previously provided when signing up. Every week, you will get paid for your hard work, just as in any other job.
Menulog drivers’ earnings for the current week will be sent on Tuesday of the following week. It depends on the bank you use. You will receive your money the following day (Wednesday), or at least on Friday each week.
If you haven’t received your payment, be sure you didn’t make a mistake while writing down your bank account information. I urge that you double-check your bank data in the courier portal.
Unfortunately, Menulog has not yet given daily payouts, as their competitors do. Daily cash disbursement is one of the benefits favoured by drivers because it allows them to access their earnings promptly and use it for operational purposes such as purchasing vehicle fuel.
